The Ashton Area Chamber of Commerce is pleased to spotlight our newest member Ashton Sunrise Café. Our business spotlight owner Ryan Grigg has family history in the food industry dating back to the early 1950’s. Ryan’s grandfather Golden Grigg and his brother Nephi Grigg are the original inventors of  the tater tot. Yep, the brothers bought a factory located on the border of Oregon and Idaho and shipped frozen corn from there. The following year they started shipping French Fries. Wondering what to do with the scraps of potatoes from the French Fries the Tater Tot was later invented. Hence the name, Ore-Ida Tater Tots! With his paternal grandparents in the Magic Valley and his maternal grandparents in the Rexburg area, much of his summers were spent here in our great state of Idaho. Seeing how much his life has benefited from visiting this area in the summers he knew one day he wanted to return and raise his family in Idaho.

Ryan grew up in Florida. At age 16 he started washing dishes for prominent restaurant owner, Eric Bachelor, now known for his popular restaurant chain: Eby’s. Ryan would wash dishes then stick around the cooks and watch as they would prepare the food for the restaurant. Seeing Ryan’s interest in culinary arts, the owner would later let him stick around and apprentice with some of the cooks as he got older. While growing up, Ryan’s mom had a catering business. Ryan was the one child who paid close attention to the detail his mother put into her business and had the interest to build onto what he had learned from her.

Over ten years ago when Ryan and his family purchased Ashton Sunrise Café, it was known to the long time locals as the “Fall River Café” or “Jill’s Place.” Over the years the restaurant has been through a couple other hands of people trying to manage and run the business. But as we all know, if you want it done right, it is easier and better to do it yourself! So Ryan came back in July 2014 and reopened serving  breakfast and lunch. Bringing back his good flavors, top quality fresh ingredients, and accommodations to the locals; Ashton Sunrise Café has had overwhelming support from the locals! And for this support, Ryan is very thankful to the community!

Ryan is available now for catering out orders for any family, business, or holiday parties. Give him a call at 313-0851 and book Ashton Sunrise Café today for your upcoming party! Also, follow weekend specials for dinner only on Facebook.
