Eastern Idaho, which includes Ashton and the surrounding area, has a cost of living that is generally lower than other cities and metropolitan areas in the West. For the typical necessities such as groceries, housing, health care, utilities and transportation, costs can be as much as 20 to 50 percent less. This is definitely a factor in any decision to relocate.

Residents of Ashton have access to a first-class health care system. The City has a local medical clinic and a modern long-term care facility. The nearby communities of Rexburg, Driggs, and Idaho Falls have full-service hospitals. The area is also served by same day surgery centers and home health services. Nearly every medical specialty can be found within an hour’s drive from Ashton. Emergency services include conventional and search-and-rescue ambulances reaching all corners of the region, and two Air Intensive Care Units supported by both helicopters and fixed-wing aircraft.

Utility rates in the Ashton area are some of the nations' most affordable. Homes and businesses are heated with electricity, propane, and oil and wood stoves. Natural gas is not available in the area.

In this age of great technological advancements, many individuals now telecommute. For others, their "commute time" ranges from thirty minutes to an hour, but there is little to no traffic and the drive is beautiful with the Teton Mountain Range decorating the eastern horizon.
